Grades

Waltham named and marked its new creation "Vanguard" but it will become known as the Model 1892.  Beginning with the 7005001 run, Waltham makes the movement in other grades so Vanguard becomes the name of a grade of the Model 1892. There are five grades that are really the bulk of Model 92 production.  These are Vanguard, Appleton Tracy & Co., Crescent Street, P.S. Bartlett and the 845.  There are other grades that were made in somewhat limited quantities as well as several private label or contract watches.  The links to the right are listed in the order of appearance in the Gray Book.  They are listed below in alphabetical order.  Most of the information is on open face movements and work still needs to be done on the Private Label watches.
